I love Easter lily; the trumpet shape white blossom is one of the most gorgeous flowers. Every year when they are in bloom I wanted to capture it with my paints and brushes.
Few years ago, I read an article on how the Easter lily came to North America:
.”An American soldier Louis Houghton apparently brought a suitcase full of bulbs from Japan after World War I, giving them away to friends. The bulbs, which originated in the Ryukyu Islands southwest of the country, weren’t available from Japan during WWII, so they became highly prized as “white gold” on the Pacific coast. Now a day, a slender ribbon of land along Hwy.101 in Oregon and California boasts the title of Easter Lily Capital of the world.”
